Humanitarian Aid: “If Gaza is the future of war, then I fear for the future of humanity”

Wherever fighting and death are taking place, the helpers of the International Red Cross are never far away. But now, the aid workers feel caught in a tight spot: crises are increasing worldwide, but funding is being cut everywhere. And the dam is threatening to burst.

Pierre Krähenbühl is also in Berlin these days. Like representatives of many other aid organizations, the Director General of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is appealing for support. Humanitarian aid is currently being cut worldwide, and Germany is planning to do the same. Yet the number of crises is increasing, and even more so: "People are coming to terms with it," says Krähenbühl.
